DIRECTLY AFTER APPOINTMENT
One of the most important things to be aware of after your appointment is to not get your tan wet until it's fully developed. Any type of moisture on your skin prior to your first shower can, and most likely will, damage your tan.
To ultimately make the tan development process easier we recommend getting a spray tan on a "down day" or closer to evening time after all of your daily activities are done. This will ensure that you are less inconvenienced and aren't having to worry as much about ruining your developing tan.
Think of it this way - anywhere that a drop of water gets on your skin will cause there to be no tan in that spot (resulting in a dot, smear, or streak)
Here's a list of things to avoid during the initial 12-24 hours while your tan is developing.
Be cautious walking outside if it's raining or sprinkling. Cover up (especially your hands and feet!) and use an umbrella.
Be careful of pets licking!
Do not apply any makeup, deodorant, perfume, lotions, or other products on your skin.
Drink out of a straw to avoid drips.
Avoid washing your hands, touching wet laundry, or using cleaning products. (Wipe palms with a baby wipe if needed)
Don't do any physical activity that would cause you to sweat.
Avoid tight clothing. Prior to your first shower tight clothes (bras and underwear too) can cause your tan to rub off in certain areas before it's fully developed.
Don't get any hair, nail, massage, spa, or waxing services done. All of these include water, lotions, rubbing, stripping your skin, and more. These types of services during your tan development will cause damage to your tan.
Try not to touch your developing tan with the palms of your hands as this can cause the active ingredient to transfer onto your palms.
We tell you to wear dark, loose fitting clothes after your appointment for 2 reasons.
1: You won't cause your tan to develop unevenly from tight clothing.
2: To avoid noticeable bronzer stains on lighter colored garments.
Our spray tan solutions contain a "guiding bronzer" that allow the technician to see where the color is going on your skin, and give you an accurate portrayal of how your tan will look after it's fully developed. Something to take note of is that this bronzer on your skin isn't your actual tan and it can rub off in certain areas before your first shower. Don't be worried if you see bronzer on clothes or sheets, our bronzer will never stain and washes out of everything.
The surface bronzers can sometimes start to look darker as the tan develops on your skin, but don't worry and don't shower early! When you take your first shower the surface bronzer will wash away revealing your beautiful, natural looking tan.
FIRST SHOWER
When taking your first shower the key is to make it short & sweet! Just a quick 2 minute rinse with warm water will do! Here’s some other tips + tricks to keep in mind.
After your appointment you will need to wait a certain amount of hours before you can get wet or take a shower. The length of time required before showering differs with each solution so check to make sure you wait the required time for your custom tan.
During your first shower you will notice the surface bronzer washing off which is normal and your SaltyBeach Tan will still be in tact!
During your first shower avoid: shaving, loofas, washcloths, and anything that could potentially exfoliate your skin.
It's always best to use water that's lukewarm and not too hot.
Avoid Dove soaps as they will strip off your tan. Also avoid any shower gels that leave residue behind on the skin.
We recommend using your hands and a mild body wash to rinse off the surface bronzer during your first shower. Basic natural products are best!
Pat dry with your towel, never rub.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!! We cannot stress this enough! The more you moisturize after you showers the longer your tan will last!
We also recommend using moisturizers that don't contain any alcohol or oils as these can actually dry out your skin.
After your first shower you can resume your normal routine as usual (makeup, workouts, deodorant, etc.).
DAILY SHOWERS
Tips and tricks for daily showers during the life of your spray tan!
After your first shower you can use washcloths and loofahs, but avoid scrubbing too hard as this can exfoliate your tan off faster.
Avoid sugar or body scrubs until your tan is at least 4 days old.
After 5-6 days of your tan you can start using exfoliating gloves or an exfoliating towel gently to ensure the tan fades evenly. You can continue doing light exfoliation every 2-3 days to maintain your tans evenness as it slowly fades.
Always pat dry.
Moisturize after every shower.
MAINTAINING YOUR TAN
If you maintain your tan correctly it should last anywhere between 5-8 days!
Moisturize - Ideally twice a day, but at least after every shower.
Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and prevent dry skin.
Avoid excessive heat such as saunas, jacuzzis, hot yoga, hot baths/showers.
Avoid spending long periods of time in water. If you are going on vacation limit long soaking periods in the pool/ocean.
Always wear sunscreen! Spray tans do not provide UV protection. We recommend a lotion that's not oil based.
Use a fresh blade for shaving.
Avoid waxing eyebrows, legs, armpits, etc. until your tan is completely faded.
